One great way to live organically is to grow you own fruits and vegetables. This is feasible for a lot of ppl even if you don't have much land. In doing this your helping to put more oxygen into the atmosphere and at the same time offsetting the costs of the food procuts you buy.

I grow tomatoes every year. All I do is water them. That sounds organic to me. When you think about growing things organically most of the time it is cheaper and easier. I know my neighbor fertilizes to the hilt and he does get more tomatoes then I do. So what! I just put more tomato plants in the ground. Problem solved. Next year I hope to plant more then just tomatoes. I want to start getting the kids involved.
Happy growing everyone.

yes you don't need that much space, here in brooklyn there is not much space, in my window i grow herbs, mint, chives, pepermint and mustard. has anyone hear about the aerogarden? it grows inside and there is no dirt you just water it and has a light on it.

I grew some tomatoes last year that did alright, but alot of the other stuff, like pumpkins and squash didn't grow!
I think it was because of the hose water. So it's worth remembering that hose water is tap water. It's fluoridated, chlorinated, and full of poison. I wouldn't use it on an organic garden... So I'm considering using bottled distilled water to grow with this year. That's where square foot gardening comes in. I need to conserve not only space, but WATER! Food for thought. Oh, and GREAT idea about putting more Oxygen in the air, Rogarr. Thats a real need in the urban environments. VICTORY GARDENS FOR CLEAN AIR AND FOOD! |

I saw this amazing system where this family had their organic veggies growing in pipes on a small little balcony. http://www.thegreenpages.com.au/index.asp?page_id=1049 Quite a good idea if you ask me. (Love the fact these guys had water tanks and solar panels as well!) |

Hm. I like the idea of growing veggies in pipes on a small little balcony. This idea is very helpful who don't have bigger space around their home for gardening. Organic foods are know to contain 50% more nutrients. As 'Rogrr' said it will put more oxygen into the atmosphere.
I have planned to grow veggies in backyard this year. Hoping that's going to be fun experience for me. |

Planning on planting a few things this summer. Going to start small and learn some tips before trying to do anything big at all. Might stick to some herbs or something.

I have about a two acre garden. Canning is an essential skill with a garden this big! I have plum, peach and pear trees. I have blue berries, blackberries and strawberries. I barder with local ranchers for things I don't grow. I also have free range chickens. I buy very little from the store!
